Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said he is "staying the course" with the internal investigation into a deadly pursuit shooting that elicited a call for him to resign from the patrolman's union.
The department's internal review will continue "regardless of the public discussion or the criticisms directed towards me, the Division of Police or the administration," Chief McGrath wrote in the statement.
The Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association called for Chief McGrath to resign at a Wednesday press conference. Jeffery Follmer, the association's president, said his members no longer have confidence in the chief.
The chief said he's committed to a fair review of the Nov. 29 shooting in which 13 officers fired 137 shots and killed two suspects.
"If we find policy and rule violations, we will hold officers accountable," he added. "If we find that officers did not violate our policies and rules, they will continue to have my full support."
