Maryland Officer Struck by Vehicle While Directing Traffic at Crash Scene

An officer with the Prince George's County Police Department was directing traffic at the scene of a vehicle collision early Thursday morning when a passing motorist struck him.

An officer with the Prince George's County (MD) Police Department was directing traffic at the scene of a vehicle collision early Thursday morning when a passing motorist struck him.

According to WJLA-TV, the officer was thrown to the pavement by the slow-moving sedan in the middle of the intersection that was surrounded by first responder vehicles with their emergency lights illuminated.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.

A helicopter overhead captured the entire event.
