Florida Officers Rescue “Distraught” Woman Who Climbed Over Bridge Rail

The woman was clinging to the bridge’s beams as patrol officers, the JSO Marine Unit, the JSO SWAT team, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue worked to save her life.

Multiple Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office units responded early last Thursday morning (June 19, 2025) when a “distraught” woman climbed over the railing of the Hart Bridge and was dangling 141 feet about the St. John’s River, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The woman was clinging to the bridge’s beams as patrol officers, the JSO Marine Unit, the JSO SWAT team, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue worked to save her life.

“SWAT operators, trained in high-angle rescues, rigged a rope and harness system and lowered it to the woman. After continued conversation and reassurance, she agreed to put on the harness. More than two and a half hours after officers first arrived, they successfully pulled her back up onto the bridge,” the sheriff’s office said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and is now receiving care, the sheriff’s office said.
