Lawrence Adams is being praised by Seattle Police for disrupting Cafe Racer shooter Ian Stawicki, which saved several lives.

After Stawicki opened fire in Cafe Racer on May 30, Adams threw a bar stool at Stawicki, which distracted him enough to allow several other customers to escape the cafe.

Adams, who lost his brother in the World Trade Center on 9/11, told police later that if faced with a tragedy, he "would never hide under a table," reports the Associated Press.

After being attacked with the stool, Adams said that Stawicki "looked at me like he didn't [care] at all," Lawrence told Seattle Police after the incident, reports Fox News. "He just moved towards the rear of the bar instead of dealing with me at all, and I just brushed past him. He was on a mission to kill my friends."

Stawicki killed four people in the cafe and fatally shot a fifth person before turning the gun on himself as police closed in on him.
