The San Carlos (Calif.) Police Department will cease to exist, following that city's decision to outsource police work to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to cut costs, SFGate.com reports.
The City Council voted in late June to disband its 85-year-old agency to save nearly two-thirds of next year's $3.5-million budget shortfall. The department has 32 employees. The sheriff's office, which has 462 deputies, has agreed to offer full-time jobs to all San Carlos officers.
In June, the Maywood (Calif.) PD disbanded their department because the city could not obtain insurance due to the high number of officer-misconduct settlements paid out by the department.
