The Los Angeles Police Department's fleet manager has outlined several cost-control measures to address rising costs, including a study of major fleet costs to develop strategies for reducing top expenditures for fuel, tires, brake components, and big-ticket components such as transmissions and engines.

Historic NYPD Patrol Cars
The NYPD began using horse-drawn police wagons in the later part of the 19th Century to move police forces from place to place. Motorized wagons came into use later, and it wasn't until the 1920s and 30s that the department began regularly using motorized patrol cars. Plymouth two-door radio cars were the standard in the late 1930s and 1940s. By the 1970s, the Plymouth Fury was the mainstay. Black-and-white photos courtesy of the New York City Police Museum.

Chicago To Purchase 500 Ford Police Interceptors
Chicago police officers will be driving Ford's 2013 Police Interceptor as their new patrol vehicle, city officials have announced. The city plans to buy 100 vehicles a year for five years at a cost of $3.5 million per year.

Ford Police Interceptors Roll Off Chicago Assembly Line
Ford is showing final production models of its 2013 Police Interceptor at the Chicago Auto Show, which opens to the public on Friday. The Detroit automaker's replacement to the Crown Vic interceptor began rolling off the line at the Chicago Assembly Plant in January.
