GA Deputy Shot Responding to Disturbance Call

Deputies responded to the disturbance at 1:41 a.m. and the sheriff’s office reports a man began shooting, striking one officer.

A Richmond County, GA, deputy sheriff was struck by gunfire early Thursday morning while responding to a disturbance call.

Deputies responded to the disturbance at 1:41 a.m. and the sheriff’s office reports a man began shooting, striking one officer. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for treatment, reports WRDW, however his name has not yet been released.

The injuries were not life threatening and the deputy is in stable condition, reports WJBF.

Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself and a SWAT team responded. He later surrendered and was taken into custody.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to assist the sheriff’s office and deployed its crime scene investigation unit.
