A man died at the Milwaukee Police Department (WI) District 5 police station Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 23, hours after his arrest during a traffic stop.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the 20-year-old man arrested during a traffic stop early Wednesday was found to have a warrant, FOX6 reports. The man was arrested, and Norman said suspected illegal drugs were recovered.

District 5 bookers conducted multiple cell checks throughout the day and at 5:53 p.m. saw the man needed medical attention, WISN reports. Norman said officers provided life-saving measures until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived, but the man was pronounced dead.

Three officers have been placed on administrative leave. The Waukesha Police Department will be the lead agency in the investigation.
