Suspect in Shooting of FL Deputy Killed Breaking Into Home
Miedema, a registered sex offender, apparently broke into the resident’s home just over the Taylor County-Dixie County line and traded gunshots with the homeowner. Miedema was killed and the homeowner suffered a wound to his shoulder.
The man wanted for the roadside shooting of a Florida deputy Tuesday night was shot by a resident and killed as he was breaking into a Dixie County home Wednesday morning.
Taylor County Deputy Troy Andersen, part of the department’s K-9 unit, was shot Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. As of Wednesday afternoon, Andersen was stable at Shands Hospital, the sheriff’s office told WCTV.

A Blue Alert was issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. It asked the public to help find the Gregory Ryan Miedema, the man authorities suspected shot the deputy. Miedema was a registered sex offender in Florida, as indicated by a FDLE flier.
Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler told reporters that around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to a residence near the north end of Dixie County after a person called about the shooting of an intruder, WTXL reported. The homeowner exchanged gunfire with the suspect after the intruder tried to enter their home. Located outside the home was the deceased suspect and multiple guns. The sheriff said the homeowner was treated for minor injuries from the gunfight and was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
FDLE Special Agent in Charge Mark Perez said that the preliminary investigation from FDLE shows that the roadside shooting and the attempted home instruction were committed by the same person.
