Detroit Officer Uses SUV to Escape Dangerous Crowd

An officer with the Detroit Police Department was briefly surrounded by a group of protesters who appeared to be turning violent and used his marked patrol vehicle to move through the crowd to effect an escape.

An officer with the Detroit Police Department was briefly surrounded by a group of protesters who appeared to be turning violent and used his marked patrol vehicle to move through the crowd to effect an escape.

According to the Detroit Free-Press, protesters had begun pounding on the patrol vehicle before the officer pressed the accelerator pedal and pressed through the unruly crowd.

Several protesters then jumped on the moving patrol car and were soon tossed from it, causing both men to suffer undisclosed injuries. Surveillance video showed both men rejoining the protests and moving with the crowd toward a nearby park.

The name of the officer involved has not been released, and no arrests have been made.
