Hundreds of people held signs and banners in support of police officers during an event on New York's Long Island Monday. The pro-police rally was in response to demonstrations that decry law enforcement in the aftermath of the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month.

According to the New York Post, the demonstration in support of police took place in the town of Port Jefferson, near the site of an anti-police demonstration held three weeks ago. Event organizer Jonathan Stuart praised police for displaying everyday acts of heroism even as they face a backlash and allegations of racism, saying, "We know your job is tough," the 29-year-old gym owner told the crowd. “We know you have all Americans’ backs, and we have yours. … Standing up here is hard, being here is hard, but we are doing what must be done.”
