A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper died Wednesday (August 13, 2025) night from injuries he suffered Sunday when he was struck by a box truck.
Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks was performing a traffic stop on I-26 in Orangeburg when he was struck, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook statement.
Ricks was in a marked patrol vehicle with blue lights activated around 2 a.m. when the crash occurred.
He had served with the highway patrol since September 2023 and is survived by his wife.
