Two Chesapeake, Virginia, Police officers were shot and wounded Wednesday night (August 6, 2025) responding to a domestic violence call. The suspect died in custody at a local hospital.
Officers arrived at the scene around 10:28 p.m. and heard a woman screaming inside the apartment calling for help, police said.
The officers attempted to breach the door and were met by gunfire, police say. Two officers were hit and wounded. “Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, and they were transported to a local hospital for treatment,” police said in a Facebook statement.
The SWAT team responded.
After making entry officers located an adult female who had been shot. She was taken to a local hospital where she died, police said.
The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 39-year-old Shaun M. Boker, fled.
Boker was arrested by the Portsmouth Police Department Thursday morning.
The police statement said: “Boker sustained superficial cuts to his arm during the standoff with officers and was transported by medics from the Portsmouth Fire Department to Maryview Hospital for medical clearance, before being taken to the Chesapeake City Jail. Officers from the Chesapeake Police Department accompanied Portsmouth medics to the hospital.”
Boker apparently experienced a “medical emergency” while at the hospital. He died at the hospital.
