Last week (August 1, 2025) the Atlanta Police Department unveiled a new uniform design to coincide with the city hosting nine games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next June.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said in a press conference the new uniforms would improve officer safety and comfort.
The base of the uniform design is dark blue. It features a light blue checkered pattern across the chest, sleeves, and pocket trim. Shierbaum said the design would help international visitors recognize the wearers as law enforcement officers. “We want everyone who comes here to know who the police are,” the chief said.
Schierbaum said the new uniforms are made of a lightweight fabric with four-way stretch, UV protection, and ventilation to make officers more comfortable in the Atlanta heat.
Atlanta officers will begin wearing the new uniforms in the airport this month, the chief said. He added that downtown Zone 5 officers will be the next group to switch to the new uniforms.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in multiple cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
