A Wyandotte County, Kansas, Sheriff’s deputy was shot and mortally wounded Saturday afternoon (July 26, 2025) during a domestic incident.

Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, died at a local hospital.

Deputies and Kansas City, Kansas, Police officers were performing a civil standby around 3:30 p.m. when a man barricaded himself inside the home and opened fire, the sheriff’s office said. Ming was hit and transported to a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said in a press release .

The suspect fired on first responders until 5 p.m. when he came out of the house and was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said.
