A Tampa Police officer was shot and wounded Wednesday (July 30, 2025) morning outside of the department’s District Two office.
Around 8:15 a.m. a Tampa PD sergeant found Master Police Officer Jordan Laupert with a gunshot wound to his leg. A tourniquet was applied by fellow officers and Tampa Fire Rescue, who transported him to a local hospital.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect, a 21-year-old black male, arrived at the District Two Office just before 8:15 a.m. Shortly after he left and began walking where he got the attention of Officer Laupert.
Laupert reportedly had a cordial conversation with the man, who then walked away. Police say the man turned around and shot Laupert.
“The suspect immediately fled the scene and was found near the Busch Gardens property with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Tampa PD said in a press release.
Local media is reporting that the suspect killed himself.
He has been identified by police as Jaylin Greene, 21.
