A Chicago officer driving home from his shift early Sunday morning was shot multiple times and his vehicle was taken.
CBS Chicago reports officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert just before 3 a.m. Sunday and found Officer Luis Huesca shot multiple times. He died at a local hospital.
ABC Chicago reports that Officer Huesca was found outside his home and his gun was taken.
The Chicago Sun Times reports his badge was not found at the scene.
Roughly 30 gunshots were fired during the attack, and it’s unclear whether Huesca returned fire, law enforcement sources told the Sun Times.
Huesca was reportedly in his uniform but with some kind of apparel covering it.
Huesca was a six-year member of the department and would have turned 31 in two days.
Officer Huerta is survived by his mother.
