Murder of Chicago Officer Driving Home from Shift Will be Classified Line of Duty

The Chicago Police Department has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the death of Officer Luis M. Huesca will be classified as line of duty. Huesca was driving home from his shift Sunday when he was slain in an apparent carjacking.

“On what would have been his 31st birthday, we are mourning the loss of Officer Huesca in the line of duty to the violence he worked to protect our city from. We will forever support his family and carry on his legacy of service and kindness,” the department said on X.

The suspect or suspects remain at large. Huesca’s gun and badge were missing in the scene.
