An officer with the Greenwood (SC) Police Department suffered a gunshot wound and a suspect was killed in a violent confrontation on Thursday night.

According to WYFF-TV, police say officers were called to a home due to a domestic dispute on Thursday night. At some point during the call, a gunman—identified as 60-year-old Willie Quarles—opened fire on the responding officers, striking one.

Police returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Greenwood police public information officer Jonathan Link told reporters that the officer who was struck suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
