Georgia Officer Shielded Her Children with Her Body as Tornado Destroyed Her Home

A Milner, GA, police officer lay on top of her children in a bathtub early Monday morning as a tornado lifted and destroyed her family's home. No one in the family was injured.

Officer Emily Blackmon told Fox 5 that as the storm closed in on her home, she was listening to the radio when and heard her street mentioned. That's when she and her children jumped in the bathtub.

Blackmon laid on top of her kids and dogs as they sheltered in place. Her ten-year-old daughter started crying as the home whipped through the air. "She said, "Mommy are we gonna die? Are we gonna die?' I said, 'Baby, God's got us,' and I just started praying," said Blackmon.

Blackmon's husband Jesse is a police officer who was on duty for the Barnesville Police during the storm. He arrived home in the aftermath to search for his wife and children in the rubble.

"I really thought I lost them, and that's a feeling I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy," said Jesse Blackmon.
