The Chief of Police for the Hampton (IL) Police Department died on Sunday morning from injuries he sustained during a single-vehicle crash on Saturday night.

According to NBC News, Chief Terry Engle died from what were termed "multiple traumatic injuries."

Engle was responding to a 911 call when his vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

Engle had served with the Hampton Police Department for more than two years after having served with the Black Hawk College Police Department for 35 years.
