An officer with the Lufkin (TX) Police Department has returned to full duty after recovering from injuries sustained when an SUV struck him in May 2019.

According to ABC News, Officer Seth Thompson had been working the scene of a traffic accident when a passing vehicle left the roadway and struck him.

He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries prior to his lengthy recovery and physical therapy process.

Upon returning to duty, Thompson said that he is grateful for the support of the community.

"I am mostly looking forward to being able to serve the community and interacting with them. They’ve been so great to me and my family. To be able to give back to them, some way now is just rewarding in that aspect."
