Louisiana Officer Shot at Traffic Stop Expected to be Okay

An officer with the Grand Coteau (LA) Police Department was treated for minor injuries after coming under gunfire during a traffic stop on Wednesday night.

An officer with the Grand Coteau (LA) Police Department was treated for minor injuries after coming under gunfire during a traffic stop on Wednesday night.

According to ABC News, the suspect—identified as 59-year-old Michael Dewayne Lucas—pulled a gun on the unidentified officer and fired, striking the officer in the shoulder.

Lucas then fled on foot but was apprehended by other officers soon thereafter.

Police Chief Wilton Guidry confirmed on Thursday morning that Lucas was booked on a charge of attempted first-degree murder by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
