North Carolina Central University police officer Stacey DeSantis is being commended for rescuing a woman out of a car stalled on a Durham railroad track just before a train crashed into the car this weekend, ABC 11.
NCCU officials said Officer DeSantis saw a car stopped on the train tracks and conducted a wellness check just before 3 a.m.
A train was approaching and the officer attempted to move the stalled car.
Officer DeSantis then took her patrol car and the driver away from the tracks.
The governor authorized the deployment of up to 1,000 National Guard troops in the wake of violence in Atlanta over the weekend that left more than 30 people wounded and five dead, including an 8-year-old girl.
