An officer with the Denton (TX) Police Department who was shot in the head and leg last week is getting incrementally better every day, according to Chief Frank Dixon, who spoke with reporters during a fundraiser for the wounded officer.

According to WFAA-TV, Chief Dixon said that Officer Urbano Rodriguez is "doing some things that we didn’t think he’d be able to do this soon."

The fundraiser—organized by Back the Blue Denton and held at two neighboring restaurants—reportedly raised thousands of dollars in food and merchandise sales, as well as anonymous donations.

Meanwhile, the man accused of shooting Rodriguez—identified as 33-year-old Antwon Pinkston—remains in jail, charged with attempted capital murder of a peace officer and aggravated assault on a public servant.
