The Opelika (AL) Police Department recently celebrated the opening of a new $18 million headquarters facility that has been under construction for just over a year.

According to the Plainsman, the move to the new facility will upgrade the department from 2,100 square feet to 3,800 square feet, giving officers and staff more room to operate.

Chief John McEachern said that in the department's old building there was only room for 15-20 people in the squad room. Now there is room for more than 100.
