A captain with the Orange (NJ) Police Department was severely injured in a patrol vehicle collision on Monday morning.

According to NJ.com, city officials canceled a scheduled city council meeting out of respect for the police department as they hope for the recovery of Captain William Boggier, who was involved in the collision.

Captain Boggier was conducting a funeral escort when a vehicle struck him at an intersection.

Boggier was reportedly rendered unconscious, suffered a broken pelvis, broken wrist, multiple leg fractures, and a head injury.

Boggier was transported to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

"We ask that you keep Captain Boggier and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time," the council said in a statement.

No further details about the collision were made immediately available.
