A deputy with the Broward County Sheriff's Office was killed in a traffic collision while responding to a call of a domestic dispute in Deerfield Beach on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Sun Sentinel, the Deputy Benjamin Nimtz's patrol vehicle crashed into a Toyota Tundra pickup truck at an intersection.
A second deputy who was following in a cruiser behind immediately called for help.
Deputy Nimtz and the other driver were transported to a nearby hospital, where the deputy was pronounced dead. The other driver is listed in stable condition.
The agency said on Facebook, "The Broward Sheriff's Office family is grieving the loss of a BSO deputy who died after being involved in a crash while on duty early Sunday morning."
Another social media post said, "Our hearts are heavy. We ask for thoughts and prayers."
