Wisconsin Man Pleads Guilty to Attack on Officer in 2018

A man who attacked an officer with the Portage (WI) Police Department in 2018 has been found guilty on a felony charge of battery on a police officer in court proceedings Monday. Additional charges, including bail jumping, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct were dismissed, but read into the record.

According to Madison.com, the man—identified as 22-year-old Jacob Hellenbrand-Bell—kicked an officer in the head in during a struggle, causing the officer to lose consciousness.

A civilian woman and a responding officer intervened in the attack.

A woman—identified as Olivia Boomsma—who also took part in the attack, reached a reached a plea agreement in January and was sentenced to two years of probation.

Hellenbrand-Bell is scheduled to be sentenced on August 21st.
