A jury in Arizona found 44-year-old Christopher Redondo guilty of first-degree murder of an officer with the Gilbert Police Department in 2010.

Lieutenant Eric Shuhandler was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle occupied by two males—Redondo was accompanied by Daimen Irizarry.

As Shuhandler approached the passenger side of the vehicle to contact the passenger, the passenger fired a single shot, striking Lieutenant Shuhandler in the head.

According to USA Today, the subjects were located a short time later, and a 50-mile vehicle pursuit ensued.

Irizarry was previously sentenced to 107 years in prison in 2010.

The jury will now decide if Redondo should receive the death penalty.
