An officer with the Romulus Police Department—just outside of Detroit—observed a vehicle moving at high speed and initiated a traffic stop. The car came to a halt, and the driver frantically signaled for the officer to come forward to talk with him.

Officer Bryan Perkins approached the driver's side window and quickly observed that the woman in her late 20s was pregnant and childbirth was imminent.

According to the News-Herald, the hospital the woman was driving to is 25 miles away from where the traffic stop happened.

Officer Perkins received permission to follow the woman for the entire distance to ensure that she safely arrived at the facility where the birth took place.

Perkins said, "I told her if at any point she couldn’t continue driving to pull over and we would leave her car on the side of the road and I would take them."
