Union Criticizes "One Day in Jail" for Alleged Drunk Driver Who Killed Officer

DPA President Mike Mata wrote in a statement, "It is reprehensible that Adrrian Breedlove, the man arrested and charged with the intoxication murder of a Dallas police officer was given a $76,000 bail, allowing him to spend less than one day in jail."

The Dallas Police Association is irate that the man accused of being under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly struck and killed Senior Corporal Earl "Jamie" Givens was able to get out of jail in less than 24 hours.

DPA President Mike Mata wrote in a statement, "It is reprehensible that Adrrian Breedlove, the man arrested and charged with the intoxication murder of a Dallas police officer was given a $76,000 bail, allowing him to spend less than one day in jail. This was a violent death caused by a man whose blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at 6AM. The officer he is charged with killing was a 55-year-old father of two who was only months away from retirement."

Givens was conducting a funeral escort for another Dallas police officer when he was struck and killed on Saturday morning.

In addition to the intoxication manslaughter charge, Breedlove was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.
