On Monday, a King County, WA, Juvenile Court held that there is probable cause for all three teenage suspects in the death of Kent Police Officer Diego Moreno to be kept in juvenile detention.
The 16-year-old driver was held on investigation of second-degree murder, according to the Seattle Times, while the two passengers of the SUV were each ordered held on investigation of unlawful discharge of a firearm, according to prosecutors.
The three teens led police on a high-speed pursuit on Sunday, after officers received reports of multiple shots being fired. Officers saw a fleeing red Dodge Dakota pickup, and gave chase.
Officer Moreno was struck and killed by a patrol car while he was deploying spike strips in an effort to end the pursuit, according to authorities. The officer driving the car also suffered injuries.
Moreno—an eight year veteran of the force—is survived by his wife and two children.
