A Louisville Metro Police narcotics detective is expected to survive after a bullet struck his head during a shooting that left one person dead Thursday afternoon in Buechel.

The officer, who was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, is expected to be OK, said LMPD Chief Steve Conrad.

Three people were shot in an exchange of gunfire during a drug investigation, Conrad said at press conference Thursday evening – the injured officer, the suspect who died and a third suspect, who was also taken to University of Louisville Hospital. Police have not identified anyone involved in the shooting.

Conrad said the investigation involved a traffic stop, though he declined to get into specifics about the investigation or what exactly led up to the shooting, the Courier-Journal reports.
