Louisiana Campus Evacuated for Bomb Threat

Louisiana State Police bomb technicians have detonated a suspicious package that was made to look like a bomb found near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus Wednesday morning.

Louisiana State Police bomb technicians have detonated a suspicious package that was made to look like a bomb found near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus Wednesday morning. The university issued a campuswide evacuation at 7 a.m. due to a bomb threat being called in.

The Times-Picayune is reporting the device was found in a garbage can in Girard Park and was detonated early Wednesday afternoon. Earlier, police were looking for a second suspicious device but that was never located.

Classes are canceled until further notice, according to an 8 a.m. tweet from the school's official account (@ULLafayette).

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has received a bomb threat. The University has activated a campus wide evacuation until the situation has been cleared. If you are in campus housing please remain in your residence. If you have commuted into campus please leave in a safe manner. Updates will follow.
