“We want to make sure people don’t think we’re just out handing out tickets,” says Lt. Paul Callaghan.
But the New Hampshire city hasn’t stopped giving tickets to speeding motorists. In fact, the thank-you note campaign is part of a plan to increase safety on Route 11 in Rochester, known for an abundance of traffic accidents. The other part of the plan is increasing traffic enforcement along the stretch.
Callaghan adds, “We have had tremendously positive response from people on the road and in the city, but we’ve also had numerous suggestions to get tougher on people who speed.”
