The New York Police Department will purchase a 72-foot bullet-resistant vessel that holds up to 30 Emergency Services officers and can reach speeds of up to 46 mph, Commissioner Ray Kelly has announced.
The jet-propelled boat will arrive with sealed windows to keep out contaminated air and is designed to respond to a suicide or active-shooter attack in the port area, reports the New York Daily News.
The NYPD is training its officers to respond to a Mumbai-style attack in which terrorists attack various locations. In that 2008 attack, terrorists used power boats to assault multiple locations.
