Brown exited the vehicle after one of the recruits parked in the shoulder lane, and while walking near the guardrail, Brown was struck by a Ford Mustang, police say. An unidentified 28-year-old man was driving the Mustang.

New Orleans Officer Writes Letter to Daughter's Killer Saying She Will Pray for Him
Ruffins' daughter Milan Arriola was found Friday evening inside a Chevrolet Camaro at North Broad Street and St. Bernard Avenue. The NOPD said Arriola, seated in the passenger side of the vehicle, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital, but died from her injuries.

Suspect Pleads Not Guilty to Killing New Orleans Officer
The suspect accused of killing New Orleans police officer Daryle Holloway, pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of first-degree murder. Orleans Parish prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty in the June 20 shooting death of the 22-year NOPD veteran.

A Wildlife and Fisheries agent remains in critical condition at a local hospital after being shot in the back during a traffic stop, which led to a manhunt by several different law enforcement agencies. The suspect was apprehended Thursday night.

Louisiana Deputy Shot in Face While Directing School Traffic
Hazeltine was shot in an "apparent ambush" Thursday (April 16) around 8:30 a.m. while directing traffic in a Paradis school zone, the Sheriff's Office said. He was rushed to the hospital in New Orleans and taken into surgery.

New Orleans PD Nixes College Requirement for Recruits
High school graduates are once again welcome at the New Orleans Police Department. The Civil Service Commission voted unanimously Monday to eliminate a rule requiring most applicants to have 60 hours college credit in order to qualify for a job on the force.
