LASD SWAT was called to home in an unincorporated area of Claremont around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies say they were responding to two 911 calls from the alleged shooter and his wife. The wife, 51, was shot in the chest and fled to a neighbor’s home, leaving her mother, 95, inside.

The wounded woman was flown to a nearby hospital and authorities told the Los Angeles Times that she “is expected to make it.“

During the incident, deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect who they believed to be inside the house armed with a handgun. At around 9 a.m., SWAT entered the home and rescued the elderly woman.

The suspect was later found in the home dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities have not released names of the couple or of the elderly woman.

No shots were fired by deputies during the incident.
