A 20-year-old man is now on trial for the shooting death of a Lakewood Police Department officer last January, according to the Associated Press.
Patrolman Christopher Matlosz of the Lakewood (N.J.) Police Department was shot three times at close range while seated in his cruiser Jan. 14, 2011. The 27-year-old officer, engaged to be married, was approaching someone for a field interview when he was killed. He never drew his weapon. Less than two days later 19-year-old Jahmell Crockam was arrested for the murder.
Crockam, now 20, faces murder and weapons charges and could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
