FBI Raid Frees Child from Ala. Abductor

The hostage situation ended sometime on Monday. Sources at the scene confirm that Ethan is safe and the hostage-taker, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, is dead.

FBI agents raided the underground Alabama bunker that had become the focal point of a seven-day standoff with a survivalist and rescued the 5-year-old hostage, reports AL.com.

At about 3:12 p.m., neighbors reported hearing an explosion and shots fired. Agents rescued Ethan and an FBI spokesman confirmed that Jimmy Lee Dykes was killed after officers stormed the bunker in Midland City.

Dykes had been holding Ethan in the bunker since Jan. 30, when he stormed a school bus and fatally shot driver Charles Albert Poland, 66.
