Officer Parete was shot the night of Dec. 5, 2006, after she and her partner, Officer Carl Andolina, responded to a call of a fight at a downtown convenience store. Varner Harris Jr., then 19, fired two rounds at Officer Parete—one struck her body armor, the other entered her chin and lodged in her spine. Officer Andolina was also shot, reports the Buffalo News.
Harris pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and is now serving life in prison for the double shooting, reports WKBW.
