An off-duty Jefferson County, CO, sheriff's deputy was shot several times in southeast Aurora late Tuesday night.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, the Aurora Police Department told KDVR TV.
On Wednesday morning, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the unidentified deputy was upgraded to stable condition and that his prognosis for recovery is good.
Police called the incident an attempted robbery and said they did not think the suspects who shot the deputy knew he was a law enforcement officer.
An Aurora police spokeswoman said the deputy shot one suspect in the leg. He is a juvenile in the hospital with an injury that he was expected to recover from. He was in police custody. Police said they were looking for one other suspect.
