An officer with the Grafton (WI) Police Department is being hailed as a hero for his quick thinking and rapid response to a medical emergency aboard a flight he was taking from Florida to Chicago.
According to WTMJ-TV News, Officer Andrew Mammen was on his way back from vacation when crew members on the flight asked over the intercom if any of the passengers had medical training.
Mammen and another passenger—a nurse—volunteered to help.
They were told that a young woman had been having seizures, and had suddenly stopped breathing.
The first responders were aided by other passengers as the pilots of the aircraft made plans for an emergency landing at the nearest appropriate airport—Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Mammen then resumed his trip home, not knowing the woman's condition.
