An officer with the Hickory (NC) Police Department suffered a broken leg when he attempted to subdue a man at a domestic dispute on Monday.
According to WSOC-TV, officers were called to a residence after a juvenile reportedly stabbed his mother in the leg. The woman called her husband, who then went to the scene.
As he arrived at the home, police attempted to place him in custody, during which time Officer Robert Helton suffered a broken leg.
Helton was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and subsequently released.
The juvenile's father—identified as Richard Johnson—is charged with both assault of a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury and resisting a police officer.
