An officer with the St. Petersburg (FL) Police Department shot and wounded a man armed with a 10-inch knife who had refused repeated commands to drop the weapon, police say.
According to Spectrum News, police were called to respond to a man with a large knife behaving erratically on a pedestrian walkway over an interstate highway.
Officers confronted the man, telling him to drop the weapon. He refused, and an officer attempted to use a less-than-lethal force option, which reportedly failed to have an effect, police say.
It was at that point that another officer reportedly discharged his service weapon, striking the subject.
The individual—whose name has not been released—was transported to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
