An officer with the Tacoma (WA) Police Department who had responded to a report of a possible death in an apartment was attacked and stabbed in the cheek over the weekend.
According to KOMO-TV, police say a mother had asked for a welfare check on one of her children, who she feared had died. Responding officers were in the process of investigating the scene when a man from a neighboring apartment reportedly emerged with a knife and launched an attack.
The wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital and is reportedly going to be okay.
The alleged assailant was taken into custody.
Following the attack, officers found the body of an unidentified man.
