Officers with the Boston Police Department were attempting to affect an arrest of an individual suspected to be illegally in possession of a firearm Tuesday when they were surrounded and threatened by a crowd of onlookers.
The agency said in a statement, that responding officers encountered a subject—identified as 44-year-old Jermaine Thomas—wearing a "fanny pack" over his shoulder.
They exited their patrol vehicle and began to speak with the man. A struggle then ensued, during which at least one onlooker threw a bucket of water on the officers attempting to take the man into custody.
The crowd of agitators then opened a fire hydrant causing a heavy flow of water pressure onto the street directed at the officers.
The subject was eventually taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and resisting arrest.
None of those gathered around the incident were arrested or charged.
