The Colorado Springs Police Department has released video from a fatal officer involved shooting that occurred July 5 (2025).

Police were called to a nightclub around 1:30 a.m. after a woman reported to 911 that a man was in the parking lot carrying a rifle that looked like an M4 in a “threatening manner” at “low ready.”

Personnel in the Colorado Springs Real Time Crime Center scanned footage from area cameras but did not locate a suspect with a rifle, police said.

Officers arrived on the scene and were told on video that there was an argument, it was a domestic, and none of the people involved wanted to report anything. The officers left.

The RTCC then saw the group returning to the nightclub parking lot and still arguing Different officers arrived on scene and tried to get the group to disperse, according to the video.

While officers on the scene were trying to get the group to disperse, RTCC personnel found video of the suspect with what appears to be a rifle in his hand walking in the parking lot. That video had a time stamp that nearly matched the 1:30 a.m. time of the 911 call, police said.

RTCC officers continued to monitor the group. At around 1:50 a.m., officers in the RTCC saw the suspect go to a vehicle and retrieve what police described as a handgun with an extended magazine that he reportedly put in his waistband.

Officers were sent to the scene for the third time.

Police said one officer approached the suspect from behind and ordered him to put his hands up. The suspect appeared to comply but then ran police said.

The video shows the suspect running from the officer with the officer in pursuit. The officer commanded the suspect to “stop running” and yelled to fellow officers, “he’s got a gun.” Police said the suspect reached for the weapon, and he was shot by the pursuing officer.

Officers recovered a pistol with an “illegal” in Colorado extended magazine from the man’s pants while performing first aid. The suspect died on scene.

A rifle was not located. A second pistol was recovered from a vehicle that video showed the man had been in earlier, police said.

The incident is being investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
