Tennessee City To Charge Officers for Take-Home Vehicles

The mayor and police union in Chattanooga, Tenn., have been exchanging lengthy memos debating the city's decision to implement a take-home vehicle policy for officers that would result in fees being charged to the officers.

Calling it the "fiscally responsible thing to do," Mayor Ron Littlefield announced that officers and other city employees would be charged .20 cents per mile (off duty) for their take-home cars (.30 cents for employees who live outside city limits), reporst NewsChannel9.

As many as 75 percent of affected police officers have said they will park their take-home cars as a result, and they say it will affect department moral and officers ability to deter crime.
